On Monday 18 February, it was Tenison Woods College V Mount Gambier High School (MGHS) over at West Gambier. The toss was won by MGHS and they sent the Tenison boys in first.The wicket had previously been played on three days in a row and MGHS hoped to capitalise on any variations the wicket might supply.

The Tenison boys started unsteadily with a few knicks through the slips, with even good shots hitting the fielders. Elliot Fisher was the first wicket lost, bowled for 7. This brought Captain Adam Kuhl to the crease with great intentions however, once he miss cued a pull shot and was caught off the spinner the boys score looked shaky at 2/40. Things didn’t get better for a while as they lost the next three wickets for just 13 runs. Whilst all this was happening, opener Connor Prior was stuck watching down the other end, biding his time. With the score at 5/53 Year 9 student Harry Fisher came out and played the perfect supporting role for Connor. The two put 43 runs on the board before Harry was bowled for 9. From there Connor exploded, and with help from Noah Sims (9 runs) took control of the innings batting through for 76 runs. After a slow and shaky start the boys managed to post a target of 138.

After our innings we noted our second top scorer was extras. The boys plan was to limit our byes, wides and no balls to under 7 and put the pressure on the MGHS players. Unfortunately this was the opposite of what we did with our extras totalling 31 runs. This however, was the only negative to our bowling, with all players contributing through either fielding or bowling.

Josh Cornolo’s fantastic performance with bowling saw him clean up the MGHS openers, middle order and tail. His 6/26 off 8 overs guided the Tenison team to victory.

Notable mentions to Adam Kuhl 2/25 and Elliot Fisher 2/11 off their 8 overs.

Without playing to their full potential, the boys managed to sneak in the win and move on to the next round.
